Invasive species pose a growing threat to forests in Canada, causing significant damage and tree mortality in urban and natural areas. This loss impacts air quality, temperature regulation, mental health, physical activity, and water management. The frequency of forest invasions has increased due to climate change and human activity, putting urban trees like ash, chestnut, oak, and maple at risk. Landscape architects can enhance forest resiliency by designing green spaces resistant to environmental changes. This webinar from Madison Sturba, Program Development Coordinator at the Invasive Species Centre will cover urban planning considerations, including planting tips, strategies to prevent invasive species spread, and measures to combat priority pests like oak wilt and the box tree moth.
