Parks Project Technician

Reporting to the Manager, Parks Development and Technical Support, or designate, be responsible for implementing all aspects of projects related to the planning, design and development of new and existing parks, trails and landscape beautification areas. Duties include preparation and implementation of design and tender documents for parks development projects; assisting with project management and contract administration for parks construction projects; performing inspections of park, open space, trails and landscape development projects in new subdivisions; assisting with the preparation of reports, designs and studies; providing technical support, guidance and assistance and researching emerging trends in park planning, design and development; assisting with preparation and administration of Operating and Capital Budgets for parks development and construction projects, responding and resolving complaints and enquiries from the public, and performing other related duties as assigned.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills normally associated with the completion of a Landscape Technology program (3 years) at the Community College level, plus two years of relevant landscape and design experience, or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced skills and experience using PC equipment and related software applications (e.g. CAD, Microsoft Office Suite, GIS). Excellent research, analytical, mathematical, reasoning and design skills. Good customer service experience and communication skills, both oral and written, to deal effectively with staff, consultants, contractors and the general public; good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships. Ability to work independently, competently and under pressure, implementing multiple tasks. Thorough knowledge of all Landscape industry standards and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. Possession and maintenance of a valid unrestricted Ontario Driver’s Licence, minimum Class “G”.
