The Environmental Design Program and the Department of Landscape Architecture invite applications for a full-time position at the rank of Instructor 1, with a starting date of 1 July 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The terms of appointment for Instructor positions are set out in Article 34 of the Collective Agreement between the University and the University Faculty Association (UMFA) – accessible at The Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba is dedicated to studies in the design of the human environment.

We offer an undergraduate program in Environmental Design and fully accredited graduate programs in Architecture, City Planning, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture, as well as a PhD program in Design and Planning. Further details are available from

The Bachelor of Environmental Design degree (B.E.D.) is a four-year program comprising two years of foundation studies (ED 1 and ED 2) followed by two years of discipline-specific studies in one of three options – Architecture, Interior Environments or Landscape + Urbanism.

This position is primarily for the teaching of studios and lecture courses in the ED 1 and ED 2 years, in the Landscape + Urbanism option and/or the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program and for Thesis / Practicum supervision in the MLA program. Teaching duties will generally comprise one studio and one lecture course in each of the Fall and Winter Terms. The position will also involve service duties, including participation in Faculty-wide administrative committees.

The appointee will report jointly to (and be assigned their teaching duties by) the Chair of the Environmental Design program and the Head of Landscape Architecture, and will be a member of Faculty Council and of the Landscape Architecture Department Council.


Candidates should have the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility for membership of the Manitoba Association of Landscape Architects.
  • Proven ability to teach design to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Proficiency and ability to teach the application of digital technologies in design creation, simulation, and evaluation.
