University of Guelph - Landscape Architecture Guest Lecture Series presents:

James Dobbin.  President and CEO of Dobbin International Inc.

Lecture title:  "Think Different, Plan Different, Change Outcomes - Rural Development Planning in Tanzania, Mozambique, and Colombia"

James Dobbin is the founder of Dobbin International (DI), a global leader in strategic spatial development planning of land, coast, and ocean environments. Propelled by original research he conducted while attending Harvard University, Mr. Dobbin has led projects in 106 countries in national, transnational, and local regions. The geographic range of his work has covered large regions in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean Region, Central and South America, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and East Asia. His clients include government, private sector (e.g., agriculture, forestry, tourism, infrastructure, mining), international financial entities (the World Bank, IFC), UN organizations, and nongovernmental organizations.

Mr. Dobbin believes the basic principles of landscape architecture and land planning are enhanced when combined with advanced scientific, economic, engineering, and planning tools and methodologies. His projects have ranged from marine protected area planning to sustainable tourism, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, conservation, restoration, and regional socioeconomic development associated with mining and oil and gas projects. He finds the most enjoyable part of his work stems from collaborating with the people most affected by decision-making and subject matter experts in diverse fields of knowledge to bring a team approach to cutting-edge solutions.

Lecture kindly supported by the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA).  All are welcome to attend.
