The 2014 OALA Conference and AGM held at the Sheraton hotel in Hamilton was overwhelmingly successful! The event saw one of the biggest turn outs of members and participants, perhaps ever, with roughly 280 total participants, including roughly 40 sponsors, 10 volunteers, 8 webinar participants, 35 associate members and 150 full members present.

KEYNOTE – Moura Quayle, FCSLA, FCELA, D.Sc. (Hons)
Designed Leadership: our competitive advantage
The OALA was pleased to welcome Moura Quayle from British Columbia for a discussion on Designed Leadership – leadership that is informed and refined by processes, principles and practices borrowed from design. The strategies, techniques and lessons are relevant and applicable, whether you’re running a landscape architecture practice or a Fortune 500 company. We all have the capacity to advance our professional and personal interests and lead or contribute to change in our lives and our organizations. And, as designers, we have the competitive advantage of already being strategic design thinkers – something that most business people are still trying to learn and apply.
SEMINAR – Elaine Pantel, CGA, and Amir Fathollazadeh, CA
Creating Value For Your Firm Through Strategic Alliances
The OALA welcomed representatives from Shimmerman Penn LLP, Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors to give a presentation on how Landscape architectural and design firms can become more competitive in the marketplace by exploring multi-disciplinary partnerships across a spectrum of projects. Participants learned what specific issues they need to consider from a business, financial, tax and accounting perspective
Very positive comments have been received on Moura’s Keynote and Elaine and Amir’s Seminar from a number of members in attendance.
