Sandy Hill Flood Control and Park Rehabilitation

Ottawa, Ontario
Stantec/Chantal Gaudet L.A. AAPQ, CSLA
NEW DIRECTIONS – Regional Citation

Balancing form with function, Stantec provided an innovative stormwater management solution for the community of Sandy Hill in Ottawa that is preserving a vital park as a hub for the residents while controlling flooding. Imperceptible to the public, an underground tank provides the first line of defense when the sewer system becomes overloaded. Although integrating the facilities changed the park layout, Stantec’s creative redesign of the park maintained and even enhanced its recreational opportunities. The new park incorporates an improved layout, modernized facilities, and comfortable outdoor places, helping to revitalize the community.
